Introducing EcoScan: Shop Greener in 2 Seconds
72% of consumers want to buy sustainable products but don't know how. EcoScan changes that with a single barcode scan.
Most of us want to make better choices for the planet. But standing in a grocery aisle, staring at two nearly identical products, how do you actually know which one is greener?
That's why we built EcoScan.
The Problem
72% of consumers say they want to buy sustainable products — but most don't know how to identify them. Existing solutions either:
- Link to your bank account and guess based on spending (inaccurate and invasive)
- Focus only on health scores and ignore environmental impact
- Guilt-trip you into abandoning the app within a week
We wanted something different: fast, accurate, private, and empowering.
How EcoScan Works
- Scan any product barcode with your phone's camera
- See an instant A-to-E eco-score with a full breakdown
- Discover greener alternatives in the same category
- Track your progress with streaks and weekly impact reports
The whole flow takes under 2 seconds.
What's Behind the Score
Every eco-score breaks down into four dimensions:
- CO2 emissions from production and processing
- Water usage throughout the supply chain
- Packaging recyclability and material impact
- Transport distance from origin to shelf
We turn these into tangible comparisons — "this product's footprint equals driving 3 km" — so the numbers actually mean something.
Privacy by Default
Unlike most eco-apps, EcoScan doesn't ask to link your bank account, track your location, or monitor your spending. Your scan history stays on your device. Period.
We use OpenFoodFacts, an open community database with over 3 million products, as our data source. No proprietary black boxes, no hidden algorithms.
What's Next
EcoScan launches with food and beverage products. We're already working on:
- Community-contributed product data to fill gaps in the database
- Shareable impact cards for social media
- Smart shopping lists with eco-score targets
- Cosmetics, household, and fashion product support
"The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it." — Robert Swan
Every scan is a small step. EcoScan makes it easy to take that step every time you shop.
