EcoScan is built with privacy as a core principle. We believe your data belongs to you.
EcoScan does not collect or transmit your scan history, shopping habits, or personal preferences to our servers. Your scan history stays on your device.
Your scan history and preferences are stored locally on your device. The cached product database is stored on-device for offline scanning support.
When you scan a barcode, EcoScan looks up the product in an on-device database. If the product is not cached locally, a network request is made to OpenFoodFacts (an open, community-driven database) to retrieve eco-score data. Only the barcode number is sent — no personal information.
The free tier includes minimal, privacy-respecting analytics via Firebase Analytics to help us improve the app experience. No personally identifiable information is collected. You can opt out at any time in the app settings. The premium tier is completely analytics-free.
The free tier displays ads through Google AdMob. We do not share your scan history or personal data with advertisers. The premium tier is completely ad-free.
We do not sell or share your personal data with third parties. The only external service that receives data is OpenFoodFacts, which only receives barcode numbers for product lookups.
